COVID-19 & Mental Illness

By examining the health records of 69 million people in the U.S., including over 62,000 Covid-19 patients, researchers from the University of Oxford and NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre found evidence that

  • Patients already struggling with mental illness are 65% more likely to contract COVID-19
  • Covid-19 increases a person’s risk of developing psychiatric illness, with one in five (20%) receiving a diagnosis within three months of testing positive.  Most prevalent diagnoses were depression, anxiety and insomnia.

Dr. Max Taquet, one of the researchers recommended that having a psychiatric disorder should “be added to the list of risk factors for Covid-19.”

This is yet another reason why Health Psychology Sacramento continues to provide face to face services.  Patients need the direct contact with their clinicians. Psychological treatment utilizes the interpersonal relationship to heal wounds of experience, wounds of the soul. It is not about finding the right pill or right technique or cutting out a malignancy: it’s about connecting to inner experience.

Our clinic is committed to a high level of COVID safety, which includes, daily temperature measurements, daily questionnaires about symptoms, social activities & possible exposure, and all our treatment offices offer state of the art HEPA filtration.

Stay safe, protect yourself.
